Add name and date on a photo

Type your name and the date the photo was taken; they are printed in black on a white strip at the bottom, and the file is fitted to the form's KB limit.

Date format

Black text on a white strip at the bottom. The text size fits the strip by itself; the strip can be 8 to 40% of the height.

Exact pixel size and other options
or drop images here to get them under 50 KBJPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more. Nothing is uploaded. You can also paste a screenshot.

How it works

  1. Type your name as it appears on the application, and check the date.
  2. Set the KB limit, and the exact pixel size under the options if the form gives one.
  3. Drop the photo. The strip is added inside the frame and the file is compressed until it fits.
  4. Check the preview and the size on the row, then download.

What the forms ask for

Where a notice asks for the candidate's name and the date of the photograph, it means a light strip along the bottom of the photo with the name and date printed in dark letters, readable when the photo is shown small. The photo above the strip still has to meet the usual rules: a recent colour picture, plain light background, face centred.

  • Use the name exactly as on the application, in capitals if the notice asks for them.
  • Keep the face large. The strip takes height from the frame, so crop close to the head and shoulders before stamping.
  • The Indian exam photo presets on photo requirements have the same option above the size field, with the portal's pixel and KB rule already set.

Questions

Does the strip change the pixel size the form asks for?

No. With an exact pixel size set, the strip is drawn inside that frame and the photo is cropped around its centre to fill the space above it, so a 200 × 230 photo stays 200 × 230. Without one, the whole photo is kept and the strip is added underneath.

Which date should I print?

The date the photo was taken, not the date you apply. Forms that ask for it use it to check the photo is recent, often within the last three or six months. The field starts at today; change it if the photo is older.

Is the file still under the KB limit after the text is added?

Yes. The text is drawn first and the size search runs on the stamped picture, so the limit and any minimum apply to the file you download. The row under the drop zone shows the final size.

How big should the strip be?

Large enough to read at the size the form shows it. 20% of the height suits a passport-style photo; go down to 15% if the face must fill most of the frame, or up to 25% for a long name. The text size adjusts by itself, and a long name moves the date to the same line when two lines would be too small.

Does every exam want the name and date?

No. It is asked by some recruitment boards and entrance exams and not by others, and the rule changes between notices. The current UPSC portal, for example, does not ask for it. Follow the notice for your exam, and if it is silent, upload the photo without a strip.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo, your name and the date stay on your device; the stamping and compression run in the browser tab.
