Compress image to 1 MB

Drop a photo and get a file at or under 1 MB, at the best quality that fits. Add exact pixels if the form asks for them.

or drop images here to get them under 1 MBJPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and more. Nothing is uploaded. You can also paste a screenshot.

How it works

  1. The limit is set to 1 MB; change it if your form says otherwise, or add a minimum.
  2. Open the options to add an exact pixel size when the rule gives one.
  3. Drop the images. The ruler under each shows where the result landed against the limit.
  4. Download one, or all as a ZIP.

Who needs 1 MB

One megabyte is the ceiling on many web forms, support tickets and older CMS installs, and it is enough for a full 2000-pixel image at high quality. If a site refuses your photo with a 1 MB rule, the fix is almost always a resize, and the quality barely changes.

  • Older CMS and forum software
  • Attachments in messaging apps with size caps

What to expect at 1 MB

The tool starts at its highest quality and only lowers it if the file is still above 1 MB at the current pixel size. For most phone photos the result is a 2000-pixel JPG at quality 90 or better.

Other limits

10 KB, 20 KB, 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB

Questions

Why is my 12-megapixel photo 4 MB when the limit is 1 MB?

Camera JPGs are saved at very high quality and full resolution. Four times smaller is one quality step and a modest resize away, with no visible difference on a screen.

Should I convert to WebP to get under 1 MB?

Only if the destination accepts WebP. JPG at quality 85 already makes the limit for nearly everything, and JPG is accepted everywhere.

Can I set a custom limit like 750 KB?

Yes. Type any number in the target field; the preset pages only pre-fill the common limits.
