Before you upload

  • Crop tightly to the signature first; a photo of the whole page will shrink the signature to a smudge at 140 × 60. The crop tool has a 7:3 ratio for this.
  • A clean scan compresses so well that the file may fall under 10 KB. The preset first raises quality to the maximum; if the file is still under 10 KB it adds invisible JPEG comment bytes until it clears the floor, and the result row says so.

Questions

Why does my signature come out below 10 KB?

Black lines on white paper are almost all one colour, which JPG stores in very few bytes. The tool raises quality to the maximum to clear 10 KB, and if that is not enough it pads the file with JPEG comment bytes, which every viewer ignores. The portal reads only the file size.

Can I photograph the signature with my phone?

Yes, in daylight, straight on, then crop to the signature in the crop tool before applying this preset.

What are the thumb impression and handwritten declaration sizes?

On IBPS forms the left thumb impression is 20 to 50 KB (240 × 240 pixels preferred) and the handwritten declaration is 50 to 100 KB (800 × 400 pixels preferred), both JPG. Enter those figures in the fit-to-size tool's options; the declaration must be in running hand, not capitals.
